Material Co-Op: Retail + Living Integration
Spring 2024 - Marshall Prado
Situated in Knoxville, Tennessee, this project synthesizes metal paneling, CLT, and eggshell concrete into a multivalent superstructure that merges retail programs with contemporary co-living. The intervention seeks to mediate social and spatial boundaries within the city by fostering an open,
community-oriented framework. Programmatically, the structure integrates a skate park, library, retail spaces, and two levels of co-living units, generating a mixed-use environment that supports diverse forms of occupation and interaction. Through the convergence of materially distinct systems, the project explores how contrasting tectonic expressions can be orchestrated to cultivate collective identity and contribute to a more interconnected urban fabric.
