The School For The Blind
Spring 2023 - Rana Abudayyeh
Knoxville, TN, looking beyond traditional design boundaries and pursued new opportunities in material experimentation and innovative tectonics. Accordingly, I generated propositions that engage sensory perception as I began to question how diverse spatial modalities can activate new potentials for learning environments, exploring and synthesizing our interior strategies for designing impactful spaces. Design, as such, carries integral performative and experiential agendas and can deliver significant influence toward positive social change.
I became passionate about exploring spaces from diverse perspectives. How can a school help aid kids who are blind or visually impaired? The material I began to explore was cork, and I created a model that soon immersed itself in my space. The challenge of viewing design from a different perspective took me a moment to grasp. Elements in the space that can allow these kids to succeed.
